Sex trafficking may be organized crime's fastest-growing business in Canada and one of the largest criminal enterprises in the world
WHAT IS COVENANT HOUSE?
As Canada’s largest agency serving at-risk, homeless and trafficked youth, Covenant House Toronto changes lives by providing the widest range of services and support to as many as 250 youth a day
Covenant House provides 24/7 crisis shelter and transitional housing programs on-site and in the community, which are enhanced by their comprehensive services, including education, counselling, healthcare, employment assistance, job training and aftercare, and so much more. To do all this, they rely on donors for more than 82% of their $27-million annual operating budget.
WHERE WILL FUNDS GO TO SPECIFICALLY?
This year, funds will go specifically towards the new supported housing program for victims of sex trafficking, which is a complimentary project to the Rogers Home, a transitional house program that opened in 2016.
The new housing program will serve up to six girls at a time who need immediate support, who are contemplating and or are ready to change their current circumstance. They will be able to access services from basic necessities through to trauma and addiction counselling and court support along with other services offered at Covenant House like healthcare, educational, and vocational programs.
